Course Title: BASIC COLLEGE MATHEMATICS

3 semester credits

Basic College Mathematics is a remedial level course, studying basic mathematical, algebraic, and geometric concepts and applications. Topics covered include set theory and logic; fractions, decimals, and percents; ratio and proportion; basic linear and quadratic equation solving and graphing; consumer mathematics and financial management; metric and customary measurement; basic geometry; and probability and statistics. Open to college students including those with a minimum algebra background who have been away from mathematics for several years. This course provides the opportunity to strengthen basic math skills and practice applying those skills in a real world environment.

Math Course Title: INTERMEDIATE ALGEBRA
Number: MTH304
3 semester credits

This remedial college level course is intended for students who have taken high school geometry and algebra. It is often taken by adults for professional development requirements. It is directed towards those students who may wish to continue the study of mathematics in college and want to review their second year of algebra before proceeding. This course is a pre-requisite for College Algebra. Together, they provide preparation for taking college calculus.

This course covers all mathematical material required for any beginning calculus course; the material is inclusive of algebra, trigonometry, and analytic geometry. The course material is comprehensive and is designed in particular as a solid preparation for MTH 325: Calculus for Science and Math majors. COURSE TITLE: Business Calculus
COURSE NUMBER: MTH318
3 semester credits

Business Calculus is designed to introduce students to elementary calculus and to assist them in applying the methods of calculus to solve problems in business and management. Emphasis of this course will be on applications rather than theory. The course begins with a brief review of algebra to ensure that students do, indeed, possess the necessary mathematical skills. This review is followed by an introduction to limits and continuity, proceeding to a study of differential and integral calculus for polynomials, exponential and logarithmic functions. Great care will be given to the graphing calculator and its use in solving calculus related problems. Throughout the course these mathematical tools are applied to problems such as maximizing profit, marginal revenue, depreciation, consumer surplus, advertising campaigns and making statistical predictions. COURSE TITLE: College Calculus I; 4th Credit
NUMBER: MTH 320 + 1
1 semester credit

This course is designed to bridge the gap from the 3 credit MTH 320 Calculus I course to the 4 credit MTH 325 Calculus I for Science and Math Majors course, and is in particular addressed to engineering, science, and mathematics majors who have taken 3-credit MTH 320 and wish to take MTH 326: Calculus II for Science and Math Majors. 6 weeks.

As a one semester course, 4-credit MTH 325 can be described by the title: Differential Calculus with an Introduction to Integration, and it is the introduction to integration that is the crux of the 4th credit that this course focuses upon. In order to satisfy the requirements of MTH320+1, a student needs to demonstrate satisfactory knowledge of all the standard material in MTH 325, through obtaining satisfactory grades on all MTH 325 exams, and submitting all homework assignments for Chapter 4 in the MTH 325 course syllabus.

A student who does not satisfy the above requirements will need to enroll in and obtain a passing grade in MTH 325 in order to be eligible to take MTH 326.

MTH326 is intended for students who are familiar with the basics of the differential calculus and have taken MTH325 or the equivalent of a 4-credit Calculus I course. Course topics include:

COURSE TITLE: College Calculus III for Science and Math Majors
NUMBER: MTH327
4 semester credits

This course, together with MTH325 AND MTH326, covers all required calculus topics for engineering, science, and mathematics majors. MTH327, which can be described by the title: "Multivariable Calculus," may also be used as the capstone calculus course for any other major that requires such a course. Students who complete MTH327 will be well-prepared to take follow-up mathematics courses in Differential Equations and Linear Algebra. Course topics include:

--vectors in the plane and space, the dot product and cross product, lines, planes, and surfaces in space
--vector-valued functions, motion in space, curvature, and tangent and normal vectors
--functions of several variables, limits and continuity, partial derivatives, gradients, directional derivatives, tangent planes, extrema of functions of several variables, constrained optimization and Lagrange multipliers
--double and triple integrals, area, volume, and center of mass, surface integrals, polar, cylindrical and spherical coordinates, change of variables in multiple integrals
--vector fields, curl and divergence, line integrals, surface integrals, independence of path and conservative vector fields, Green's theorem, the Divergence theorem, Stokes' theorem

COURSE TITLE: LINEAR ALGEBRA

4 semester credits

This course covers the standard material in systems of equations and linear spaces, balancing theoretical and pragmatic perspectives. The course is useful and/or required for science, engineering, and mathematics majors.

Prerequisites: at least two semesters of calculus (or total equivalent of 8 semester credits of college calculus I and II). And, it is recommended that a student has taken multivariable calculus (4 credits of third semester calculus) as well. The bulk of the multivariable calculus material utilized in this course is related to vectors, and can be found in the Appendix of the text. Therefore students may choose to take this course while learning the required multivariable calculus material on their own. Course topics include the following:

--linear equations, inclusive of matrices, vectors, and Gauss-Jordan Elimination
--linear transformations, image and kernel
--subspaces of Rn, linear independence

Course Title: LINEAR ALGEBRA FOR BUSINESS APPLICATIONS
Course Number: MTH329
Semester Credits: 3

This course is intended primarily for non-math, non-engineering majors (business majors, for example) and focuses mainly on matrix methods, determinants, solutions of simultaneous linear equations, and topics related thereto. Concepts related to linear programming, an important business-related tool, are included. While Calculus is not significant to the understanding of the concepts and methods presented, a solid foundation is college algebra is required for success in this course. Functions, methods, and tools available in Microsoft Excel are emphasized. One semester course.

This 12-week course is the continuation of a first course in Differential Equations, such as MTH335 at CALCampus. Half-year content. This high school course provides a review of basic skills and other mathematical skills needed to meet the challenges faced by most consumers.
