Diploma Program
Curriculum and Graduation Requirements
Here are the requirements for earning your high school diploma from CALCampus High School:
(4) Language Arts/English
(4) Social Sciences (includes American history, government, economics; world geography/world history)
(3) Mathematics (at least one algebra)
(2) Science (physical and biological)
(1) Humanities Elective
(1/2) Fine Arts/Performing Arts
(1/2) Health Education, Safety, Life Skills
(1) Physical Education
(1) Applied Computer Applications
(3) Electives
Minimum Total: 20 credits
This is achieved through a combination of your prior high school studies and our courses. This is a minimal formula and many of our students achieve more than this on their final transcript. Through analysis of your prior high school transcript (and for adults, your employment and training resume), we provide our students with an individualized course plan that fulfills the basic requirements for a high school education in the United States and fulfills our core curriculum requirements.
Notes:
- American History (includes full-year survey of American history; New Hampshire residents will also study NH state history and government)
- American Government (includes also Voter Responsibilities and study of the US Constitution)
- Research Procedures (required)
- Law & Society (Senior Paper)
- Applied Computer Applications (students are awarded credit for their Internet Research, Internet Communications, and Applied Word Processing done throughout our program)
All students will exhibit mastery of the fundamentals of Reading Comprehension, through the successful completion of a pretest in reading comprehension. If the pretest results show that remediation is needed, students will be provided with individualized course study in reading comprehension tailored to the weaknesses revealed through the diagnostic pretest.
All new students are given a Mathematics Diagnostic Test, which will determine if further instruction is needed in algebra.
Students are required to document 10 hours of unpaid service to their community or church prior to graduation.
Students are required to pass three proctored Competency Examinations after completing their course work and prior to graduation. These cover Reading, Writing, and Mathematics.
Students planning on entering colleges in the future should plan on taking more than the minimum core curriculum. Students with career goals in mind have the option of taking a variety of electives in career fields. We provide academic and career counseling and will suggest appropriate courses to supplement the core, upon your request.
Course Descriptions
Kinds of Electives
Selection of electives is done between the student and the Director. Some students enter with many of their electives already completed from prior schooling. Others need to take electives through CALCampus. Students who have been out of school for a while and in the working world may have already earned career electives through experiential learning on the job or through job training.
The student has some flexibility in the course selection for electives. CALCampus provides many courses that can help prepare a student for careers in business, computer science, and legal studies. We also offer a good selection of elective courses in the humanities and social sciences.
Career Pathway Electives
These are clusters of courses that fall within a particular discipline for the purpose of preparing the student for future job possibilities and career paths, such as paralegal studies, computer programming, computer applications and technology, business management, and general business. Students have the option of selecting career pathway electives from our postsecondary division. Adults who have been in the working world are eligible to apply their job training towards career electives.
College Pathway Electives
Some students select electives that will prepare them for college and university entrance and particular majors within college studies. The student and his/her academic advisor will discuss this during the admissions process so that college pathway electives may be taken during the junior and senior years. Students may also select advanced standing college level courses from our postsecondary division.
Independent Study Electives
Students may select Independent Study courses to fulfill their electives. These are individual, self-study courses, prepared and completed in conjunction with the student's advisor, which fulfill specific learning areas not already offered as CALCampus courses.
