CALCampus High School Diploma Program
Curriculum and Graduation Requirements Our school provides flexibility in curriculum and serves various kinds of students, ranging from homeschoolers who wish to earn an accredited traditional diploma to young adults who have left traditional schools to working adults. You will notice that we try to provide slightly different requirements to suit the needs of different students rather than putting everyone into one pre-cut form. Additionally, graduates of our diploma program will appreciate the ability to take college courses in our Postsecondary Division through which they may earn college credits. Curriculum for College-Bound StudentsStudents whose aim is to attend college will be interested in our curriculum for college-bound students. Note that certain college-bound students may be eligible for advanced level courses from our Postsecondary Division. Here are the overall requirements for students planning for college: (4) Language Arts/English
Curriculum for Career-Bound Students and General Diploma (4) Language Arts/English
Courses are accepted in transfer from prior high school studies and secondary level homeschool studies. Any courses not already taken are provided by CALCampus to fulfill the graduation requirements. Course descriptions follow: Through analysis of your prior high school/homeschool academic record (and for adults, your employment and training resume), we provide our students with an individualized course plan that fulfills the requirements for your high school diploma. Notes:
All students will exhibit mastery of the fundamentals of Reading Comprehension, through the successful completion of a pretest in reading comprehension. If the pretest results show that remediation is needed, students will be provided with individualized course study tailored to the weaknesses revealed through the diagnostic pretest. Students in our College-Bound curriculum are required to document unpaid service to their community prior to graduation. This can also include unpaid service for a religious organization. Colleges and employers value community service experience. Students under 23 years of age are required to pass three proctored Competency Examinations after completing their course work and prior to graduation. These cover Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. Full-Time vs. Part-Time We recognize the fact that some students may have jobs, family responsibilities, or for
any other reason may not have the time and wherewithal to attend full-time. We allow students to choose their preferred status
and number of courses per 12-week term
so that they can better afford their program and better fit it into their home and work schedule.
Most students take three courses per 12-week term, which is considered full-time and
allows one to complete
his/her diploma program in one year if entering with two years of prior high school study. We do allow part-time status which would
be taking only one or two courses at a time; but that will take you longer to graduate, depending on how many courses you need.
Electives and Advising Students planning on entering
colleges in the future should plan on taking more than the
minimum core curriculum. Students with career goals in mind have
the option of taking a variety of electives in career fields. We
provide academic and career counseling and will suggest
appropriate courses to supplement the core, upon your request.
The student has some
flexibility in the course selection for electives. Selection of electives is done
between the student and the Director. Some students enter with
many of their electives already completed from prior schooling.
Others need to take electives through CALCampus.
Upper level high school diploma students may
enroll in courses from the CALCampus Postsecondary Division, if they fulfill the pre-requisites for the course and have approval of the Director
and instructor. CALCampus offers
many courses that can help prepare a student for careers
in business and legal studies. We also offer a good selection of
elective courses in the humanities and social sciences.
