General Education Requirements for Degree Studies

Most universities in the United States require a core of general
education courses during the first two years of collegiate study.
This includes 30 credits (10 courses) in courses selected to provide
a solid cultural and intellectual foundation for the student's future
studies.  The general education requirements provide flexibility in
course selection by the student, following the general guidelines below:

I. Communication  6 cr.
       English Composition I, English Composition II (or other writing course)

II. Mathematics/Science/Computer  9 cr.
       One course in mathematics:
          (College Algebra, Intermediate College Algebra I, Intermediate College Algebra II,
           Business Mathematics, Beginning Calculus I, Beginning Calculus II, College Calculus I,
           College Calculus II)

       Other courses selected from: natural sciences (astronomy, biology,
         botany, chemistry, entomology, geology, physics, zoology)
         AND/OR mathematics, statistics, computer science.
       
III. Arts and Humanities  6-9 cr.
        Select courses from the following areas:
          history, humanities, literature, philosophy, fine arts,
          art, dance, music, theatre, religion, public speaking, film,
          modern languages, theatre arts, English.

IV.  Social Sciences 6-9 cr.
        Select courses from the following areas:
          psychology, sociology, law, government, geography, history,
          economics, anthropology, criminology, gerontology, education.
