The Postsecondary General Education Diploma allows the student to customize a course plan by selecting electives from the Arts and Humanities. This is a general curriculum program for adult students who wish to pursue their own educational objectives, whether by combining related courses from several disciplines, by exploring several distinctly separate interests, or by choosing a variety of courses. Graduates of this program can use this as an avenue for admission into Bachelor of Arts studies in the future or transfer towards an Associate of Arts in General Studies. Students planning to pursue a B.A. should select courses from within the General Education areas for their Electives.

The program provides a general framework within which to plan a flexible curriculum to suit the student's own emphasis. For this program, students need to earn a minimum of 60 credit hours which can be achieved through a combination of General Education Requirements and Electives, as well as through prior learning credits.

The general structure of the program includes:

1.  General Education Requirement (30 credits)
        30 credits are selected from a broad range of general education
        courses.  Minimum requirements include:
                6 cr. writing and literature
                9 cr. math/science/computer
                6-9 cr. arts and humanities
                6-9 cr. social science
      
2.  Electives (30 credits)
        30 credits of electives either from a range of subjects or
        in a major study area, and they may include additional courses
        from the area of general education. Students usually select
        courses that meet their own individualized future educational
        or employment needs and interests.
